About Ingrid

Ingrid M. Nembhard is the Fishman Family President’s Distinguished Professor of Health Care Management at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on how characteristics of health care organizations, leaders, and staff affect their ability to engage in organizational learning, implement new practices, and improve health care. Professor Nembhard’s research provides insights about two issues primarily — organizational learning in health care and the work environment for health care professionals. Her work has led to greater understanding of the effects of intra- and inter-organizational relationships, leadership behavior, team learning strategies, and project management on quality-improvement efforts, patient care experiences, and clinical outcomes. She integrates knowledge of organizational behavior, organizational theory, and health services research and uses qualitative and quantitative research methods to answer questions in health care management from provider and patient perspectives and to evaluate organizational performance. Professor Nembhard received her PhD in Health Policy and Management with a concentration in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University through a joint program between Harvard Business School and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She received her MS in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University School of Public Health and her BA in Ethics, Politics, and Economics and in Psychology from Yale University.
